The year is 2052. A generation after the Great Outbreak wiped out half the human race, some children born from those vaccinated against the pandemic develop powers ranging from the unusual to the extraordinary. Leaders transformed entire facets of society to monitor and control these Variants. Born into a world ravaged by a silent apocalypse, feared by every previous generation, and oppressed by police divisions created to control them, Variants organise to fight for their freedom. The future of the world teeters on a knife's edge in a struggle as serious as a heart attack.
The Heart Attack Role-Playing Game is an officially licensed tabletop role-playing game based on Skybound Entertainment's powerful and poignant Heart Attack comic book series from writer/creator Shawn Kittelsen and artist/creator Eric Zawadzki. The Heart Attack series combines a wide array of genres - including superheroic, science fiction, post-apocalypse, romance, espionage, and political thriller - in a story that relies on them all for both plot and mood. Its theme is far simpler at its core: bigotry always provides opportunities for corruption and the abuse of power. When people with superpowers are the targets of that bigotry, though, it raises the stakes for all concerned. At the intersection of all those clashing forces stand the player characters. Forced to defend their right to simply exist, they must stand up to hostile agencies, slanderous influencers, and activist infighting if they hope to discover their full potential. In a world that holds them in contempt, the greatest battle Variants face is the one to stay free.
The Heart Attack Role-Playing Game is a dual-system release, featuring both the influential Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) game mechanics framework as well as Dyskami's popular and modular superpowered Tri-Stat System game engine.
